I'm a fan of the actress Constance Wu from her role as Jessica Huang on the tv series Fresh Off the Boat. I think she's the perfect strong female lead with a good sense of humor. She was recently cast as one of the lead characters Rachel Chu from the book series by Kevin Kwan Crazy Rich Asians. I immediately looked into the upcoming movie and bought the first two books for my iPad.
Im SO excited for the movie directed by Jon M. Chu with a full cast of Asian actors/actresses!! Constance Wu, Awkwafina, GEMMA CHAN, Michelle Yeoh, etc. dressed in high fashion, mixed with humor and some drama. In the first book I loved reading about sophisticated, elusive Astrid and her cousin Nick's relationship with American raised Chinese girlfriend Rachel Wu. Astrid and Nick are cousins and come from one of China's oldest, wealthiest families. Their privileged lifestyles are completely foreign and unknown to Rachel as she is thrown into the fire when she visits and meets Nicks family for the first time in Singapore. The second book China Rich Girlfriend picks up a couple of years later after some major drama in the first book. It also covers more story on Kitty Pong a former soap opera actress/socialite who is desperately climbing the social ladder in a wreck less manner with the help of a social status consultant.
The books are quick, witty reads with great character descriptions.
I got a library card to rent books for free instead of buying on iTunes. Finished the third book in the series in four days. Now I'm a little sad there's no more (for now).
I'm really excited for this movie and Hollywood finally highlighting Asian Americans 🙌🏼
