Whenever I'm home I always take some time to visit the Met and check out the current costume exhibit. There's always a particular theme and really amazing displays of couture fashion which I'm a sucker for. Realizing the efforts of designers from past to present and their amazing attention to detail is something any designer/maker can appreciate. This years theme is Manus X Machina "Fashion in an Age of Technology." The exhibit features fashion that combines handmade and machine technology production processes. There are different sections that highlight specific features such as feathers, pleating, lace, 3D print, etc.
These were some of my favorite pieces:
Hussein Chalayan cast fiberglass dress. This backless dress stands on its own without a mannequin.
Alexander McQueen dresses with metal flowers and synthetic pearls.
Gareth Pugh-cape made with drinking straws
Yves Saint Laurent embroidered and beaded dress
Halston Roy sequin gown. Very mermaid-esque
I forget the designer of these dresses. I do love the metallic accents and textures.
Alexander McQueen-coral, dyed shells, and pearls. The dress to the right is one of my top three favorites from the show.
