Be a force of nature

The feminist movement is still relevant and in your face as ever. There are plenty of female comedians, actresses, self made entrepreneurs who are using their platform to speak on inequality towards women.  See this link to Forbes list of top self made women for proof:

At this point in time I believe women should stop comparing how we're so different and think bigger than what society views us as.  I am more than a young, Asian American female.  I've had odds against me for most of my life.  I was the only Asian person in my family living in a predominately wealthy Caucasian town.  My family didn't have money, they didn't believe in going to college or focusing on a career.   My family didn't understand me because I liked things they didn't care about and I wanted things they never bother to pursue.  While I was a senior in high school I was accepted to the single school I applied to F.I.T., left home, and haven't stopped since.   I worked exceptionally hard to support myself financially working full time at crappy retail and food service gigs.  At the same time I was taking 8 classes a semester to earn my degrees and to secure a design job I interned too.  When they say "New York is the city that never sleeps" it's because no one can afford to live there without working their ass off.   My self motivation paid off because I was able to quickly work my way out of retail and up the ladders in design jobs.  By graduation I wasn't even worried about looking for a job, because I had already been working in the design field.   I worked with a lot of smart, confident boss ladies in NYC which was even more motivation and inspiration to look to.  I pushed myself not because anyone was watching, but I wanted to set myself up with opportunities that weren't going to be handed to me.

My struggle is a common and personal bond shared with so many others.   We overlook, overthink and compare too often over the wrong things.   People may not understand or like you, but worrying about that stops you from achieving your full potential.   Life isn't fair, but that doesn't mean you have to settle for bullshit.   In the words of the great Cristina Yang...
